This week's playlist pumped full of African influence thanks in part to Matt Yanchyshyn. His blog offers world music and culture clash from the point of view of the mother land. The Abyssinia Infinite track and Kuduro offerings come straight from the benn loxo du taccu archives. I'm digging just about everything this guy has to offer! So much to catch up on!!!
I stumbled on Matt's blog while looking for more on Oscar Sulley who's classic Bukom Mashie is reworked on the Nephew's of Phela 12" I can't seem to put down. We also heard the classic Soul Makossa and found it on the tubes to boot (video above)! Makossa is arguably the first disco record to hit and comes from Cameroonian sax man Manu Dibango (still makin hits). Also heard Mad Decent's Chicken Noodle Flu M.I.A. remix featuring Buraka Som Systema who I'm pretty sure rep Angola in some physical capacity if not just in spirit. Angola, Cameroon, Ghana, Ethiopa, some good tunes from all over the map, but there's wayyy more to all those places. I'm also going to try and dig out stuff a friend passed to me from Kenya in the coming weeks.
Before I forget to shout out the fam, check out Flavorheard'snew mix. They rocked Enormous Room in Cambridge this past Saturday, and will continue to do so every third Saturday of the month and so on so get with it. I also believe that this weekend is the much anticipated reschedule of Certified Bananas at Thunderdome. Could be worth a look.
Still getting the guest list together for the next few weeks. Many things going on in the background including this new blog I'm contributing too. Worth a read I promise! Listen up tomorrow night for more weird ass beats. Peace easy,
