All kinds of love for Africa

This week's playlist pumped full of African influence thanks in part to Matt Yanchyshyn. His blog offers world music and culture clash from the point of view of the mother land. The Abyssinia Infinite track and Kuduro offerings come straight from the benn loxo du taccu archives. I'm digging just about everything this guy has to offer! So much to catch up on!!!

I stumbled on Matt's blog while looking for more on Oscar Sulley who's classic Bukom Mashie is reworked on the Nephew's of Phela 12" I can't seem to put down. We also heard the classic Soul Makossa and found it on the tubes to boot (video above)! Makossa is arguably the first disco record to hit and comes from Cameroonian sax man Manu Dibango (still makin hits). Also heard Mad Decent's Chicken Noodle Flu M.I.A. remix featuring Buraka Som Systema who I'm pretty sure rep Angola in some physical capacity if not just in spirit. Angola, Cameroon, Ghana, Ethiopa, some good tunes from all over the map, but there's wayyy more to all those places. I'm also going to try and dig out stuff a friend passed to me from Kenya in the coming weeks.

Before I forget to shout out the fam, check out Flavorheard's new mix. They rocked Enormous Room in Cambridge this past Saturday, and will continue to do so every third Saturday of the month and so on so get with it. I also believe that this weekend is the much anticipated reschedule of Certified Bananas at Thunderdome. Could be worth a look.

Still getting the guest list together for the next few weeks. Many things going on in the background including this new blog I'm contributing too. Worth a read I promise! Listen up tomorrow night for more weird ass beats. Peace easy,

holler at James Pants

Music from James Pants in last week's playlist. I was loving Pants on Chrome Children Vol. 2 (unfortunately no longer free to download) and I'm loving him now after checking out his magazine love and blog hollers. We heard audio straight out of the Do A Couple Things video (above) featuring Pants's funky basement beats, awkward sandwich eating, and a cameo from N.W.A's Arabian Prince!

Had some calls about the funky house set earlier in the show which included the future classic Wu Tang Slide from Bamabounce (available here). Nephews of Phela gave us a rework of Oscar Sulley's "Bukom Mashie" (maybe you can get it here?), and we also heard Olivier Gosseries Clap Your Hands 2002 (again, could be a shot in the dark) who's still doing the house thing. He's got mixes up in the downloads section of his website that might be worth a look.

Had a relaxing trip home to the tristates. Back in town now with a few new sides from the archives. I'll be going it alone tomorrow night but we're going to have live sets and interviews from Boston local Giesel and Chicago affiliate Hotboy Smooth so stay tuned for those details! Till then, see me at 10 tomorrow night!

So I'm late on this but Garth Marenghi's Darkplace is one of the funniest shows I've seen in a while. The production and graphics are on point with vintage BBC sci-fi. I think it's the music that brings it next level though. "Stig Baasvik" nails the mooged out intro, witty break downs, and Twin Peaks style synth beads. We heard the intro and some soundbites in last week's show. Check out Darkplace on the tubes and cop the DVD!

Lots of other jazz, afro beat, with some uptempo jams towards the end. There are a ton of tunes I just can't get out of my head right now. We'll be doing more of the same tonight so hit me up at 10pm. I'd make this post longer but my internet at home is on the freak and the neighbors signal isn't so strong. I'll go on the record that I hate Comcast by the way. Alright see me tonight and we'll talk more,
