Bonde Do Role interview!

Bonde Do Role on Vimeo

Peep this video clip of Bonde flipping out onstage! (above) When your done, listen to the interview aired last week. (below) For maximum hype, do both at the same time!

What's this Baile Funk of which they speak? Don't feel bad if you're that far out of the loop, help is on the way! We're going to have Baile Funk expert Elizabeth Stark sit in and set you straight (she's been to Rio yall). Should be happening in the coming weeks...maybe even this week! Stay tuned for details.

Also forgot to give shout outs to my boy Nick over at Radio Sandwiches for helping me find the origins of a Mofo white label favorite. In his own words:

Apologies for being a totally pedantic music nerd: "Computer madness" should be credited to Chicago house legend Steve Pointdexter. A totally sick record, which I think has been recently repressed (officially).

Why apologize for being the man Nick? You can check him out over at WMFO and he'll hopefully be dropping by one of these weeks to drop some gems on Mofo Radio. As for this Steve Pointdexter record, I couldn't agree more. If you find the repress cop the product!

See you Wednesday, usual place, usual time.

Diplo listens to my radio show.

A bold statement I know, but is it a coincidence that last night he rocked the 2 Hyped Brothers and a Dog track I played last week AND rolled up to the club wielding the same Davy Allen and the Arrows anthology I played two weeks ago? Okay, probably, but whatever, my man SLAYED last night. There is truly no other word to describe it. People was all sweaty in the heat wave and still wanted him to rock after 2 hours of mayhem.

Mad Decent posse Bonde Role and CSS killed and rocked respectively. The kids from Bonde were even good enough to chill out for a quick interview before the show which I'll be airing tomorrow night so don't miss this exclusivo! Seriously not to be missed! They talk really funny!

For those not familiar, Bonde De Role come from an interesting place in the Brazilian Funk scene. Often called "outsiders" (roughly translated, suburban kids), It's a place I'm interested in learning more about so tune in let's talk about it!

The Duke!

Nothing beats the back cover of the George Duke album I played last week. I'll try to up a better picture for yall if I manage to get my scan on. With floating miniature keytar in hand (sort of) you know this dude means business.

We heard some other random rap from the archives, funk and soul from the back shelves, and experimental tunes from the wall. And abbreviated show and an abbreviated post, but be sure to hit it up this week at the usual time tonight at 10!!! One love,

Daryl Nathan vs. Louie Gordon?

Public TV has always been a great thing. The internet is also a great thing. Together they are unstoppable as made clear by this series of clips of the Great Daryl Nathan who had his own cable access show in grand rapids MI in the mid 90's (link via WFMU's Beware of the Blog). Will he ever know he's become slightly more famous as a result? We heard some of these tracks on the show but the videos are a must to dig the true appeal (video above).

I can't help being reminded of Mofo favorite Louie Gordon who, in his own words, "is all musics" . He's pushes everything from club to smooth r and b, all unintentionally lo-fi! Shit's crazy! He also sings in falsetto like my man Daryl. I found his cd in a pile of station mail but he's got mp3s and video clips on just about every free promo site out there (sans recent majors like myspace and youtube). He claims to have over 2000 songs across the internet and with every google search and link chase turning up new material I'm starting to believe him! While he may have dipped into public tv (I'm pretty sure all his videos are re-edited porn) the internet has been his main way of staking a claim in the entertainment industry. Perhaps we'll see his shit re-uped in future internet meme?

A final apology for the time switcharoo last week. Some last minute subs were needed and summertimes are chill like that. The result was my spanning parts of two timeslots for a mega marathon show featuring a lot of old favorites.

Hope everyone had a great fourth of July and are all ready to get back into the grindstone this week. Be sure to end your work day with Mofo Radio at the regular time, 10pm this week. But be sure to grab a drink and get those feet up before you do so.
