Back in action!
If you weren't keeping track,
last week was the first fall edition of Mofo Radio. The kiddies are all back to school now so things are sure to get raging over at
WZBC. Be on the lookout for new shows and an eventual new program schedule.
Started things off with the Mighty Voices of Wonder who's rare piece of gospel funk appears on
Good God! A Gospel Funk Hymnal out on
Numero Group. I've got to credit
Soul Sides once again for the link on this one. Numero Group themselves has some of the best ideas in crate digging I've heard lately. Definitely one to watch.
Also heard from something new called
The Sao Paulo Underground featuring
Rob Muzarek of Chicago Underground fame among other projects. Here he cooks up all sorts of jazz, electronic, and now Brazilian influences into one kickin stew. His personal website also features rad art/sound + vision which is worth a look.
Much love also goes to the
Hot 8 Brass band and their music. On my few weeks off I caught the
Spike Lee Katrina doc in it's entirety and that shit is on the real. I won't get too into the buzz surrounding the film but I will say I'm disgusted by accusations that Spike has added some sort of racist slant to the situation (as if one hadn't existed for years before hand). The film features tenants who resided in the effected areas of New Orleans, including members of the Hot 8. There are a bunch of MP3's available on their sight, and an album for sale, so be sure to find out for yourself, these guys are the real deal.
That's all I got for this week. We'll do it all again tomorrow. Same Mofo place and time. Peace easy,
