This news hit me pretty hard. I remembering hearing about Disco D when I was first getting into booty. Ever since then it seemed like everyplace I wanted to go he had already been. From ghetto tech to international tracks, founding labels and DJing worldwide. He even had a hand in the mainstream game. Truly an innovator on every level, under and above ground. Picture above posted with an interview he did with Laron Cue. In his own words...
"Part of the problem in music in general is people genre-fy too much. To me Ghettotech was always about drawing from whatever and not giving a fuck. That's why I can produce a 137 bpm record for Sara Stokes that has a commodores sample and can mix with 2 Live Crew or stuff in that range, or co-produce a song like "Turnin' Me On" for Nina Sky...I write music with feeling and emotion in mind, not with genres. We only had to put the name Ghettotech behind what I was doing before for marketing purposes at the time."
Now I know that's right. Memorials have poured out across the web and I'm sure will take musical form in due time. I'm trying to put together clean D tracks for this week's show so tune in if you'd like to catch that. Here's a video of D doing what he loved.
Last week's playlist here. The live Drumcorps track that hit in the late night hours is available for download at Goatlab. A little harder then my usual flavor but when he rocks those marching band samples it's way hype.
Shout out and thanks to Kevin aka Lone Wolf for hooking up a screening of the DJ Screw documentary at Video Underground this past Thursday (peep the Pheonix write up). He also opened my eyes to the world of chopped and screwed videos being made by slow fans world wide. Kind of makes Boyonce seem a little manish but the beat still bangs. Here's to more events promoting the dirty dirty.
See you Wednesday night, same time and place for the spring schedule. Word.

Piaa Piaaaaaaaa!
BLAM! Golden Globes had me in the mood for one of the best looking upsets ever in Pia Zadora, a true pop idol till the end.
Last week's playlisthere. Some classic house and rave music (diva vocals are ruling me lately) and the other half of my terrible early 90's dancehall collection acquired at PRex of note.
Wayne has picked up where I left off combing out the iMeemjuke scene big time! His recent move to Chi town luckily puts him right in the thick of it so we're sure to hear more on this from the Waxman himself.
Also got a few things that are Internet old news but glaringlyobvious in their absurdity. I'll post em here in case you didn't know, and to prove a point, THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING!
DJ Drama and Don Canon arrested on what have to be the most ridiculous grounds in hip hop history. Story broke on Fox News with better perspective at AllHipHop.com. I attended a panel on mixtapes atCMJ two years ago and I remember hearing MattSoReal and ZviEdelman talk about the hipocritcal practices of the record industry when comping tracks to mixtape artists. I don't think it's a far cry to say the mixtapeDJ's saw this day coming. Up to the minute info at freethedjs.com.
And I like Timbaland as much as the next guy, but he's gotta own up on this one. It appears one of his beats on the Nelly Furtado album is ripped right out of the hands of a Finnish guy with some Commodore chops. The ytmnd does I think the best job of comparing the two, but there's a Youtubevid and a thread at Something Awful which may have broken the news. Perhaps a mistake on a ghost beat from another producer? In any case, Timbaland, we see you.
Alright that takes care of that. On the live tip, Flavorheard rocked Enormous this past Saturday and will do so every third Saturday of the month from now on. Yours truly will be DJing what is shaping up to be an awesome dirty south crunk ass barbecue this Friday night in Davis Square feat Nick, Teep, Bunyip to name a few (email me for details). Catch your Mofo Radio tomorrow night. Thanks thanks,

Happy New Year and glad to be back in 07! First show of the season kicked off last week. Here's the playlist if you were still in holiday mode.
Some more ghetto and juke music last week, the center piece of which came from DJ Hotboy Smooth out of Chicago. Check him out with the rest of his crew at Certified DJ's. Playlist above returned in a google search off someone'simeem, which seems like a more media friendly myspace based on the Dawkins meme? Could be worth checking out. Make sure your speakers are bassed out when checking out these Smooth tracks though. You'll see why.
Sister Charmaine called out Brooklyn later in the show with a few early ninetiesdancehall 12"s out of Brooklyn and Queens. Money Talks was one of Cutty Ranks top singles in 1991 repressed on Gold Disc. Mary (on Lambada records) and Hood Top (labelled Shelly's Records) are weird singles also from 1991 distributed by V.P. and Super Power Records respectively.
Check out some Internet radio offerings from TodoMundo. DJ Lone Wolf with main dudes Septimus Smith and Dania Shapes bring freeform radio mayhem with plenty of hijinks and banter in between. We're already twoepisodes in but I think there's a full weeks worth promised so catch up quick over at the TudoMundo blog.
That's all I got for this week. Get at me tomorrow evening, same time same place. Till then.
