A favorite from the crates...
Forgive me for sleeping. Had a pretty busy week but I figure an entry is better late then never. While I'm sure the playlist is still fresh in your minds from last Wednesday, take a gander
here if you want to re-examine.
Started with some music from
"Panama! Latin, Calypso & Funk On The Isthmus 1965-75" new on Soundway Records. Special thanks to Oliver Wang over at
Soul Sides for spilling the beans on this awesome, all be it, compilation of tracks. Oliver keeps an awesome tally of all things classic funk soul as well as new music so be sure to check him out! Props also to
Dusty Groove on carrying it. They're the shit.
More Music from Jack DeJohnette who gave us some vocals this time on his record Inflation Blues. His records on ECM blow me away, featuring him on drums, piano, trumpet, and now vocals, there's nothing this guy can't do. Hit up his
wikipedia entry for all the info and check out his
official site, he's still crankin!!
We also heard again from
Diplo, remixing RJD2 this time on a supplemental release to Since We Last Spoke featuring remixes from Diplo and Haul and Mason (where have those dudes been?). Solid stuff on both sides and you can hear it all in the
Def Jux Juke Box. I slept on all three Soul Position performances that were supposed to have happened last week but if you managed to hit any up let me know how they were. Be sure to catch Diplo along with
Mad Decent label pioneers Bonde Do Role at Great Scott on July 17th! I know it's a bit in advance but this show should sell out if Boston knows what's good. Should be tight in a small venue. I heard they're hitting up Warsaw in Brooklyn as well.
A final shout out to
Google Pages, granting 100 free megabytes web storage to all! I've already
cashed in and this will allow me to post more audio and all that good stuff so I promise more mp3s in the future. In the meantime I'll be with you all again within 24 hours so I think it can wait.

Shit's free this week!
For starters, Madlib's 45 Mix is a must. It's featured in the most recent
Stones Throw podcast (also a must). We heard an excerpt from it at the top of the program, but be sure to download and listen to all the knowledge.
I should also make mention of Roosevelt Franklin. These dudes gave their last album away on a
blog not unlike this one. Drum and keys duo spittin messeges about change in the industry and the future of what they call rap music. Maybe embracing some of
these ideals? Just a thought. Cop that shit too (and also the live set on wfmu).
And in the later portion of the show, music from Peeesseye who also offer some free mp3's linked to their
label's website. All recorded live I might add. There's even some
cool video of them floating around.
Seriously folks...
And oh yah...

Shakeyfizzle
Music from
Shakeyface in
this week's playlist. Dude is making waves in the Brooklyn/New York thang so make sure to peep out his album and mixtapes, some of which he's so nicely offered for download.
And also from
Modeselektor, coming to the Middlesex Lounge May 25th...and holy crap
People Under the Stairs May 17th at the Middle East!! (i've been sleaping on the local calendar). The 17th IS a Wednesday but I absolve you all again to go check out P.U.T.S. SHIT! Modeselektor same day as
Soul Position! Perhaps catch the in store performence at
Underground Hip Hop, then the MDSLKTR set that night, if you're up for it. Or just make the decision in your life,
Hip Hop vs. Techno.
While I haven't been able to dig up the Ronnie Darko Radioactive mix we heard a few weeks ago, I was able to find the A side, featured in it's own
Blentcast over at Blentwell. I may go ahead and post the other half but I'm still working on making my hosting situation a little more solid. Props again to drew for hooking me up with space for music thus far. I HAVE managed to make the feed more solid with the help of
feedburner. Check the link under the Blogger logo for a fully functioning feed.
That's all I got for this week. Sorry no audio tid bits, lest I re-up some broken links prior. Peace for now.

Spank Really!
Thanks again to
Spank Rock, XXXchange, Ronnie Darko and Chris Rockswell for sitting down to talk for a few minute before their show at the Middle East (video of 'em killin it above). I've already been getting questions about who what when and where so here's the interview again for anyone who is confused:
spank_interview.mp3In
this week's playlist we also heard a mix from Darko on the Superglue cdr tour mix, which by all accounts they are completely sold out of. I'll do a little more research and I may leak it to the internerd if I find it doesn't already exist there elsewhere.
One more shoutout to Max of
Certified Bananas for throwing down an awesome opening set on Sunday and chilling out for the interview as well. Perhaps he'll be willing to join us some week? Holler at Steblau, who did join me on air last night, and who's birthday is on Friday...so happy birthday. No more special guests on deck as of yet. Peace till next week.
