Language Lab
As promised, I managed to rip the Sushi rap from the flea market tape I found. Finding some kids beat boxing and rapping on a tape is golden, but a whole room full of them in a talent show setting is extra gold. Check it out:
Ee Sushi Ga Hoshi!!!Also be sure to check out the
playlist from
last week. The
Ananda Shankar gems we've been hearing lately are directly from the
Captain's Crate. There seems to be more where that came from along with a plethora of other media for consumption. Will have to check this out further.
That's all the notes I have. Be sure to tune in tomorrow night to hear special guests, the two and only
Joseph Colbourne and
Ben Sisto spinning some audio delights and giving you the low down on
Color which happens this Friday at the
Milky Way! As if that wasn't enough fun for the weekend
Yo Majesty are playing Middle East on Saturday night (this one's a must).
CSS also on the bill. In the meantime I'll see you tomorrow night at 10pm!

Jammin' Out!
Wow this guys is jjjammin (video via
N_M_R). Count on MIT to bust out some conductive thread midi boat synthesis mobile beat making possibilities with the
Music Jacket. Happened to catch a great opening for the
MIT visual arts progam Saturday night. Then caught
Flavorheard at the enormous room (
where were you?). The night before it was Rebirth Brass Band who play louder then I think any other brass band ever. They even played Big Chief which is of course a Mofo favorite. Check the
video. Note: all of these experiences would have been greatly improved had I been wearing the musical jacket.
But before all the fun weekend stuff happened, a radio show happened. Check out the
playlist here. Still digging through the back log of vinyl. I'm kind of picking up interest in cassettes again too. Sucks I don't have a player at the crib. We heard some sick beat boxing and rap about sushi in the Language Lab Talent Show performance I found on audio cassette at a flea market. I'll rock it again this week and try to nab it out of the show to post here.
The
National Free Culture Conference is going down this Saturday at Harvard. The day looks to be jam packed with discussions, lectures, lunch, and it's all...free! Highlights in the schedule include an engagement with
The Institute for Infinitely Small Things, and
DJ/Rupture on "creating free culture." Following all that will be "Dance Conspiracy," the afterparty night time get down mobile DJed by yours truly. What's a Dance Conspiracy? Come find out 9:30 pm at the Harvard Square T stop, free (of course).
Tomorrow night I'll be sadly rocking solo. Special guest
DJ Axel Foley is unfortunately out sick. Here's to him getting well soon so he can get back behind the decks! If it's any consolation,
Joseph Colbourn will be spinning on next week's show (May 30th). Him and
Ben Sisto are starting a
new night at the
Milky Way. They'll hopefully both be stopping by to chat things up! More details in future bloggage, and on the air tomorrow night so tune in to know the deal! See you tomorrow at 10pm, wzbseeme,

Spanish Fly Orgies?
DJ Spanish Fly at the top of
last week's playlist thanks to the mighty
Cocaine Blunts and
this post on the old school Memphis scene as it stands on the internet. Spanish Fly is still doing his thing on
Hot 107.1 in Memphis and is playing Mississippi Friday so if you're out that ways, be sure to look him up.
In other local radio news on the dial,
Wayne reminds us it's orgy season over at
WHRB. They'll be airing the entire
Blogariddims series as hosted by Gregg Scrugs. This is a good reminder the revisit the series, and Ben's own writings at
Beat Diaspora. Other marathon sessions on deck include Detroit Techno and Art Blakey themes to name a few making this year's orgy season worth tuning in to for sure. Full schedule up at
WHRB.
In my own local radio news,
DJ Axel Foley joins the program next week to share some favorites from his stacks and give us a listen to some original projects he has going on. Be sure to check him out live on May 23rds Mofo Radio. As for tonight, I'll be rocking out solo with some backlogged vinyl to listen too. \Shall we do it together on the air? Show starts in a few hours so hit me up at 10!
EDITT!: Forgot to holler about the
Rebirth Brass Band show this Fri. at
Harpers Ferry. Got my ticket secured!!!

Egypt Love
Check out
last week's playlist. You'll notice another throwback from Mofo favorite
Egyptian Lover (thanks
TRP) and if that wasn't enough Egyptian love, Mofo sources have revealed that fellow favorite of the program Ali Dee, aka one half of Prophets of Unity, is also, in fact, Egyptian. By sources I mean
this review of his full length which states he's at least part Egyptian. Connection made? The Tap Skinz 12" actually comes from the WRBB archives. Check the single, it's pretty absurd and about that dirty kind of loving:
Ali Dee - Tap Skinz (Raw Mix)We also heard from a bunch of new (to me) records I bought
here, and even more from
here! The listening pile has grown pretty large so more fresh wax to come.
Check out your
Flosstradamus at
Thunderdome Friday.
Giessel and
Axel Foley semi-confirmed for the weeks upcoming on Mofo Radio but check me out solo tonight at 10! Til then,

MAYDAY!
Unfortunately in need of another two week wrap up. Mad busy week going into spring over here, but peep the
playlist from
two weeks ago and
last week.
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble is killing me right now with their single
War. Just got the 10 inch in the mail so we'll be hearing a lot more of that. Lines up kind of nicely with the
Slavic Soul Party stuff I've been playing too. I should do a big post on killer brass bands. Dirty Dozen, Hot 8, Rebirth, Young Bloods, expect this in the future.
We also heard some new Gino
Soccio tunes dug up in a post by
33/45 along with the
youtube hookup. My favorite is still the Dancer b-side, So Lonely.
Had a great time this weekend at the
Punk Rock Flea Market where I picked up a ton of new (to me) records. We'll be hearing selections from all of that tonight so be sure to tune in at 10!
